A professor of Aligarh Muslim University on Sunday gave Triple Talaq to his wife Yasmeen Khalid on Whatsapp. The wife alleged her husband Khalid Bin Yusuf Khan, professor and chairman at the Department of Sanskrit at the university had turned her out of the house with the children.
She said if justice was not done to her, she will commit suicide in front of the Vice- Chancellor’s house. The practice of instant triple talaq was declared illegal by the Supreme Court on August 22. “He (Khan) turned me out of the house and I have been running from pillar to post to get justice. But no one has helped me so far. However, with the help of police, I did manage to get access to my house on Friday evening,” Times Now quoted Khalid as saying.
However, Khalid Khan denied the allegations. He said he was deceived by his wife about her studies prior to their marriage. “To the contrary, she has been harassing me for the last two decades. She had hidden various facts from me before our marriage. I later got to know that she was not even a graduate, unlike what she had claimed. I will give her the third talaq too, on a proper date, and no one can stop me. I don’t care what she does,” Yasmeen added.
The police officials managed to get Yasmeen to her house. The officials informed Yasmeen has not filed an official complaint against her husband.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had struck down the centuries-old practice of instant triple talaq among Indian Muslims as unconstitutional, manifestly arbitrary and void in law.
