According to reports hindupost.in wenty-one-year-old Paresh Mesta’s body was found floating in the Shetty Lake located near a temple on Friday night. As per most media reports, local police suspect that Paresh may have “fallen into the lake” while escaping from the mob. Paresh’s relatives, however, suspect foul play, and told the media that he was an expert swimmer as he belonged to the fishing community. Adding to the tension in the area were rumours that there were injury marks on his body. An autopsy report, however, is still awaited despite postmortem of the body being conducted in the government hospital in Honnavar.

On Saturday, BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje demanded a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into Paresh’s death. Calling it a brutal murder, Shobha accused the police of a cover-up. She alleged, “The murder was covered up because Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was touring the Uttara Kannada district when the stone pelting incidents were reported. One of the accused, Azad Annigeri, has links to the ISIS.”

The Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP said that Paresh was at the temple which was being attacked when he tried to escape. “There were prohibitory orders in place. Despite this, stones and shoes were hurled at the temple. CCTV footage shows that uniformed police personnel are standing still and not doing anything about the mob armed with weapons,” Shobha Karandlaje said.

Karandlaje accused the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government of weakening the police “through people like Kempaiah (home minister’s advisor).

Several BJP and RSS leaders visited Paresh’s house on Saturday. Union minister Anant Kumar Hegde, MP Shobha Karandlaje, Vishweshwar Hedge Kageri, Shivanand Naik and others visited Paresh’s house.

Hundreds of people took out a funeral procession carrying Paresh’s body. Union Minister Anantkumar Hegde, who was also part of the procession, accused the state government of indulging in partisan politics.

Security was beefed up after Paresh’s body was recovered. More than 1,000 police personnel from different districts have been moved to Honnavar to maintain law and order.

Background

It all began on Wednesday when an altercation between an autorickshaw driver and a motorbike rider flared up into a communal clash. “An altercation began between a motorbike rider and autorickshaw driver over a small accident. This became a major fight and snowballed into incidents where mobs wielding machetes and wooden sticks attacked houses and shops belonging to a particular community,” Inspector General of Police, Hemanth Nimbalkar said.

A few hours after the stone pelting incident, Paresh Mesta went missing after he reportedly tried to escape the stone pelting. Rumours, however, that Paresh had been abducted added to the tension in Honnavar.

According to IG Nimbalkar, stone pelting incidents were also reported in rural areas of Honnavar taluk on Thursday. So far, police have been arrested 40 people, including the former president of the Honnavar town panchayat, in connection with the incidents of stone pelting.

Hindus Allege Pre-Planned Attack, Tacit Police Support for Rioters

Hindu groups alleged that the violence was pre-planned and that the way a large mob of Muslims wielding swords, sticks and stones, attacked Hindu houses and shops, show prior preparation. There are complaints that the police acted in a partisan manner, and allowed 200 Muslims to come by train and worsen the situation in the town.

Locals alleged that police entered their houses at night, beat up women and children and arrested the men. Hindu organizations gave a bandh call on Thursday, alleging that only people belonging to their community had been arrested. All shops and business establishments remained closed on Thursday.

5 Muslims Arrested

Only local news outlet Udayavani has reported that five persons, Azad Annigeri, Asif Rafiq, Imtiaz, Muhammed Faisal Annigeri and Jim Saeem have been suspected for murder in this case. They were produced in the court whereupon they were remanded to judicial custody till December 21.

All other reports on the case have plugged the line that police is suspecting this to be a case of suicide. How could they all have missed the news about arrest of 5 suspects for Paresh’s murder?

Was Paresh Brutally Tortured Before Being Murdered?

One thing is clear – Paresh Mesta was murdered. He did not just ‘fall into a lake’ and die. Now, various media reports mention ‘rumors’ about the dead body having wound marks – of course, none of them has bothered to speak directly to Paresh’s family, such empathy & effort is reserved only for minority families. Reporting the truth about a Hindu victim equals to ‘communalism’ as per the liberal-secular Bible which our MSM swears by. The Karnataka police too has managed to suppress the autopsy report thus far.

Going by some accounts on social media from local Kannadigas, it appears that Paresh was grotesquely tortured before being killed. Although we have been unable to independently verify these accounts and photos, we feel it is important that the information be shared in the public sphere seeing the pervasive attempt in media to bury this crime.
